Fair Weather Friends is a four-piece pop punk/pop rock band from Dunfermline, Scotland. On their self-titled album Fair Weather Friends I can’t say there is much new they are infusing in this brand of music that bands like Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy and You Me At Six have done before besides the noticeable Scottish accent of the lead singer. 

The band delivers high energy choruses that revolves power chord progressions and distorted while also continuing that nostalgic/grand vibe that seems inherent with the pop punk genre. All things considered if you are a fan of the aforementioned bands you won't have to make much of a leap to enjoy what Fair Weather Friends offer. 

I noticed a pattern when observing the song titles. “The Cheater” “The Player” and “The Game” seem linked. Coincidence? I doubt it. I was hoping for a lyric sheet to compare subjects but couldn't find one. Whether you are a fan of pop punk or not there is no denying the band is technically impressive and have some creative talent. Take for instance “Miles Away” which contains impressive guitar picking that is melodic and metronome like drumming. 

“The Cheater” is a fast paced, adrenaline pumping song that is anthemic and catchy while “The Player” contains more melodic guitar that is arguably the finest on the album. Another standout is “Moodswings and Roundabouts” which has a slight Queens of The Stone Age type vibe. All things considered “Credits” may be the best song on the album. I especially enjoyed the verse and the long build towards the end of the song. It’s definitely a great closer. 

This is a strong release with a batch of cohesive songs from a band that can play their instruments really well. If you are a pop punk fan you can't ask for more than that.
