Right out of Helsinki, Echo Patrol, a five-piece band, gives its listeners a dose of good hearty alternative rock sound, with an international twist. Echo Patrol has been together for more than a decade and the band has finally decided to release their first full-length album Consequences. While listening to their new album the music is something like vintage classic rock. I am reminded of well-known songs from bands like Sound Garden, Sonic Youth and even Nirvana. Starting off the album is a high-energy track titled “Come Home.” It starts off with a no-frills guitar chord and some serious percussion. Then we are introduced to the voice behind Echo Patrol; it carries a depth to it and you can feel the Euro vibes peeking through at times. “You got me, I’m wasted, I can tell by the look you’re faking… help me out,” and then the crying out of “come home,” toward the epic closing of the song makes this one really entertaining to jam to. This song is truly a trip to the ’90s and I love it. The next song “Sixteen Nights” is slightly mellower and has a darker and mysterious demeanor to it. The style of the guitar is in line with the surf rock genre; there is definitely some seduction going on in this particular track, “come on baby take a chance with me and we can go on riding out, we can go on riding… the only thing that’s on her mind is love that never dies.” As the song goes on it becomes really catchy and fun to listen to; this is a perfect bar song. Sharing the name of the album, the song “Consequences” is reeking of Nirvana tones and pulls you in from the very beginning. There is something about that rugged, rigid and crispy sound that you can’t help but fall for. “How you gonna fight the feeling… you say it’s never the consequences.” This album is filled with eleven tracks of pure rock. They all have an epic ballad rock persona that is just begging the listener to dance out or sing along to the lyrics if they know them; this is definitely a party album. Consequences is well produced and it’s about time this band put together an album!
