Hailing from Nashville, TN Brandon Fields is a singer/songwriter who recently released a five song EP entitled Tired of Trying. There isn’t a whole lot of explaining that needs to be done with this EP. Fields arsenal consists of his guitar and vocals. The song veers towards melancholy and nostalgia.

Fields biggest weapon is his vocals. He has a heartfelt delivery and carries the songs. As far as the guitar playing goes it revolves around mostly basic chords that any amateur guitar player could pull off.

As far of the aesthetics are concerned his vocals were recorded better than the guitar. The guitar is a bit too rickety sounding at times. Some more warmth in the lower frequencies would have helped out.

Fields starts things off with “Anything You Say” where he sings “All alone and I can’t think straight/So what can I say to you that will make you stay”. The unambiguous lyrics paint a picture of a troubled relationship where things aren’t going so well. Fields pulls off some impressive lead guitar on this track. It reminded me of the types of solos you would hear from Slash on acoustic material.

“Far Away” was a highlight amongst the batch but the lead guitar on this track was too soft in the mix while “Alone” is about as melancholy as it sounds. The remaining songs “I've Been Waiting” and “Tired of Trying” fall in line with the mood he established on the first three songs.

Fields is talented but the songs on this EP do feel interchangeable and that's because of the the chords are strummed in a similar way, the tone of his guitar does not change in anyway and the mood feels the same. If Fields releases a full length he is going to want to find a way to mix it up. I think in this case some additional instruments on a couple song would work fine with the style he plays and getting out of his comfort zone might be beneficial as well. This EP establishes a foundation but would like to hear him evolve on his next release. ​
