Anthony Hannon started his musical career at the age of fifteen. Years later he ended up moving to New York and getting a job with Atlantic Records. After three years he wanted to try and step to the other side as an artist. His recent release Fire is a six-song EP, which shows what he has been up to. 

Hannon makes music that would appropriate in the club where guys have tans, they have too much cologne on and the ladies are looking for attention. The first song “Fire” would probably have fared better about fifteen years ago. It hits hard with 4/4 beat and classic lead synths. All I could imagine were people getting sweaty on the dance floor and doing shots of Jager. 

The next song “Criminal” is another club thumper. Hannon’s vocals are too loud in the mix. They sit on top of the mix during the verse. The song is predictable techno as the beat doesn’t shift much and the breakdown and inevitable return are foreseeable. “Timeout” isn’t as upbeat as the first two tracks, which made me feel like I should have been peaking on MDMA. The vibe is a little more ominous and it suits him well. Next up is “Sitting In The North” which infuses a bit of R&B in there along with the techno beats.

The best track is “One Day” in which Hannon delivers his best vocal performance. He is more soulful with his vocals. It’s one for the ladies in the house. I’d like to hear more of this style in the future. 

Hannon is treading a familiar formula. I don’t think there is any denying that. Does he have what it takes to make it to the mainstream? I’m not sure but I have to say he might benefit by having a lady with a nice set of pipes sing along with him on some of these songs.
