Productively working their way up from their humble beginnings as a band practicing in a garage, the four-member rock band Adaptors, hailing from Australia, has released a four-track self-titled EP Adaptors that displays the band’s disposition towards psychedelic rock with additional influences from blues and new wave.

A buoyant, echoing guitar riff hovers above “Presage” the opening song on the EP. Steady drums, classic rock guitar strumming and powerful vocals bring home the band’s sound and give the tune a full soundscape. One notable aspect of this song is the interesting bass line. Whereas many rock band basses simply pluck along to the chords, Keelan Judge manages to transform the bass guitar into a harmonious instrument that goes beyond solely providing the foundation to the lower register sounds.

“Serenity” starts softly with soft guitar strums and atmospheric synths accompanying wistful vocals. Gradually, the song’s volume rises as more instruments join the fray, and by the end of the song, a full-fledged anthemic chorus serves as the apex of the track’s dynamic journey, then slowly dissolves until the end of the song.

Pulsing bass notes, blues-y bent guitar notes and a fast paced drumbeat pave the way for the melodic vocals and harmonies of “A. R. S.” arguably the most catchy song on the album. The vitality of this track scarcely ever diminishes throughout the tune, giving the album a boost as it transitions to the second half of the EP.

Finishing with “Breaking Point,” the proverbial storm unleashes its relentless energy upon the listener. Pounding drums, uninhibited vocals and screaming guitars lead the way, effectively bringing the EP to a climactic ending. Overall, this album exhibits the talent and camaraderie of Adaptors and manifests their ability to create and perform high quality music.
