B.d.kold Interview
Q: Can you talk about your musical history?
A: I started writing when I was 11, I found free-styling around the age of about 14, by 17 I started learning how to record, between 17-24 I spent endless nights recording in my bedroom trying to learn how to use my voice and get better at the craft. I took about five years off and recorded three songs in a pro studio, then took another three years off and took my Christmas money after much prayer and preparation recorded Make It Rain. In March of ’18 Walking in Faith was my first project, July of ’18 Heart Condition came, Dec of ‘18 I wrapped up Distribution Of Hope, and March of this year Street Gospel came.... I’m blessed to be able to do what I’m doing at the level I’m doing it.
Q: What is your creative process? Can you walk us through how you get the sparks to fly?
A: As we all know my faith and belief system plays a big part in it. I believe in prayer in every step of my process. I may have it in my spirit that it’s time for the next project or song so I pray for God to lead me to the beat. Then over a day or the next few days I pray to make sure that this is the right beat and if it is I ask the Holy Spirit to give me the words to speak, and to give me a message for his people, and most of the time when it’s time to write i can’t stop until it’s done.
Q: Heart Condition, Distribution Of Hope and Street Gospel all seem to revolve around your faith. How has your faith effected your music?
A: Good question, for me when i was in the streets, living a life that involved those subject matters that most rappers speak about those are the things I spoke on, as I grew as a person and learned the word and I learned a new way of thinking, I felt compelled to reflect that, the same way i reflected what my life was like when I was lost in my music. At this point in my life my faith is the biggest factor that effects my music.

Q: What are some of the other themes and topics you explore over these three releases?
A: To be honest with you, I believe that I am a gospel rapper. I believe that God has called me to preach over beats as a tool to allow him to be brought to the people that are called in this generation. So with that being said, outside of life’s experiences and what he’s done for me in that regard I do my best not to waiver from the message of the cross and the death burial and resurrection of Jesus, because I feel like if I’m not doing this for him then you can take my mic away.
Q: Do you play live at all? Can you also talk about the beats you make? Do you work with someone or do you do it all yourself?
A: I’m not opposed to playing live. When i was a youngster most everything we did was live, so I guess you could say I cut my teeth on doing club shows, but in this run I’ve only done one live performance, and I believe that in God’s timing he will move on me doing shows but for me it’s all up to him.
In October God moved and allowed me to start Army of the Lord production. We specialize in high quality instrumentals for low quantity prices. Right now at bdkold.com I have 250+ beats up for sale at $25 dollars apiece for full exclusive rights. Wav, mp3 and contract of ownership upon purchase.
Right now outside of mentorship with some known producers I do all the work myself. We also got our first placement on a soon released beat tape from anno domoni nation platinum circle. My beat was selected to be featured on it, so I think things are about to move forward.
Also shortly I will be offering a special package called the career starter bundle for $19.99 where you will get a 20 track instrumental mixtape with unlimited rights. All you will have to do is add lyrics to it. With this package I will offer mastering of the project that you make with it, as well as consultation and social media promotion. A date isn’t set for this to start yet but I believe it to be by the first week of July.
Q: What else do we need to know about B.D. Kold?
A: Even though I do gospel, I’m a man just like anyone else. I don’t have it all together. I still make mistakes, i still struggle with things in my past, or old habits, I have a crazy family, and deal with conflict from time to time, but compared to where my life was ten years ago, and in the chaos that God has brought me out of things are far greater for me today then they’ve ever been. I hope that my music, and my story will allow the guys who traffic narcotics, and the women who do whatever it takes to get the bag to find peace in their life, the same way he’s allowed me to find it.
